Background: This study was conducted to assess the tumor infiltrating lymphocytes in breast carcinoma patients.

Materials and Methods: This study comprised of 100 women who had breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to assess the tumor infiltrating lymphocytes in these women. The study procedure had been explained to all the subjects and informed consent had been taken from these subjects. The women belonged to the age group of 25-60 years. The characteristics of the women who showed positive and negative results to the tumor infiltrating lymphocyte investigation had been noted down and the findings had been tabulated. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS software.

Results: There were 26 women in the age group of 25-30 years. 31 subjects belonged to the age group of 31-40 years. There were 17 subjects in the age group of 41-50 years and 26 subjects in the age group of 51-60 years. Among 91 women, the presence of TILs was noted while they were absent in 9 women. 72 tumors were on the right side and 19 were on the left side among subjects showing stromal TIL positivity. 6 tumors were on the right side and 3 were on the left side among subjects showing stromal TIL negativity. Among the subjects who showed stromal TIL positivity, 6 cases showed size less than 2cm, 46 cases showed size 2-5 cm and 39 cases showed size >5 cm. Among the subjects who showed stromal TIL negativity, 5 cases showed size 2-5 cm and 4 cases showed size >5 cm. Overall 59 cases showed lymph node metastasis. Perineural invasion was seen in total 70 subjects and microcalcification was seen in 52 subjects.

Conclusion: From the findings of this study, it can be concluded that most of the cases of breast carcinoma showed tumor infiltrating lymphocytes. Most of the tumors were on the right side. Majority of the tumors showed lymph node metastasis and perineural invasion.
