Abstract:

Background: The present study is carried out to examine macroscopic and microscopic findings of cardiomyopathy in autopsy cases. Cardiomyopathies represent a various group of myocardial diseases characterized by structural and functional abnormalities of the heart muscle. Autopsy studies play a crucial role in explaining the spectrum of pathological changes associated with these conditions. By examining postmortem findings and histopathological analyses, we aim to contribute to the current understanding of the morphological changes, underlying etiologies and prognostic implications of cardiomyopathy.

Methods: A Retrospective study of 18 cases of cardiomyopathy. Cases during period of 1 year were studied. A detailed history of patients was taken with special attention to the age, sex, clinical history, macroscopic (gross examination) and microscopic features of tissue. Microscopic examination is done under standard H & E staining procedure and special staining if needed.

Result: Total 18 cases of cardiomyopathy were studied among them 11 cases of Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, its most common type of cardiomyopathy and 7 cases of Dilated cardiomyopathy.

Conclusion: In conclusion, our autopsy case series emphasizes the importance of detailed pathological examination in understanding cardiomyopathies. The predominance of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy highlights the need for increased awareness and early identification of at-risk individuals to prevent sudden cardiac events. By linking clinical presentations with pathological findings, this study enhances our understanding of the mechanisms behind these diseases. Further research into genetic and environmental factors will help refine prevention and management protocols, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes in cardiovascular medicine.
