Abstract:

Objective: To estimate serum Pentosidine levels by ELISA in patients of breast carcinoma and its correlation with SBR (Scarff Bloom Richardson)/histological grading
Materials and Methods: A total of 60 patients with breast cancer admitted in a general surgery unit between September 2022 to August 2024 were included in the study, with age ranging between 21 to 70 years, a single male and 59 females, premenopausal 26 and postmenopausal 34, with a presenting complaint of breast lump in all. Left side of breast involvement was more as compared to right side and upper outer quadrant was most commonly involved. Out of 60 cases, SBR grading was done in 50 cases. Serum Pentosidine levels were estimated by ELISA and its correlation was done with SBR grading.
Results: Out of 50 cases, 14 patients belonged to SBR grade 1, 24 belonged to grade 2 and 12 belonged to grade 3. However, serum Pentosidine was maximum in grade 3 followed by grade 2 and minimum in grade 1 with a significant result (p<0.001)
Conclusion: As serum Pentosidine levels rises with the increasing histological grade of breast cancer, it can be used to predict the histological grade of tumour even before the biopsy is performed.
