Abstract:

A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with a total of 103 respondents, focusing on senior citizens living with family in the Gazipur district. Data were gathered through face-to-face interviews using pretested structured questionnaires, and the analysis was performed using appropriate statistical methods with SPSS-22 software. The findings revealed that a significant majority of respondents (86.4%) reported never experiencing neglect from their families, while only 2.9% indicated that they were sometimes neglected. Additionally, 58.3% of respondents reported experiencing relationship stress occasionally. Financial difficulties were noted by 75.7% of the respondents, with only 1.0% stating they never faced such problems. Health-related issues were also prevalent, with 87.4% of respondents indicating they sometimes encountered health problems, while only 3.9% reported never facing health-related issues. Forgetfulness was reported by 35.0% of respondents, with 9.7% indicating they never experienced this issue. The study also found that 52.41% of respondents frequently felt tired, and 49.5% watched TV as a means to improve their mental health. Furthermore, 42.7% engaged in gossip, while 7.8% did not participate in any activities for mental well-being. Exercise was practiced by 35.9% of respondents, and 14.6% received emotional support, counseling, and guidance; however, 85.4% did not receive such support. Moreover, a majority (59.2%) reported not consuming adequate nutrition. Mental health conditions encompass mental disorders and psychosocial disabilities, along with other mental states that can lead to significant distress, impaired functioning, or risks of self-harm.
