Dr. Madiha Amin, Dr. Tufail Ahmad Khan and Dr. Anuja Sharma
Background: Urinary bladder carcinoma is the 7th most common malignancy of urinary tract worldwide while in India it’s the 9th most common cancer. It is an important cause of morbidity and mortality because of its aggressive nature and recurrence. Histopathological parameters play an important prognostic role in predicting the prognosis and outcome of bladder carcinoma.
Aims & Objectives: The current study was designed with an aim to evaluate the histopathological parameters in urothelial bladder carcinoma.
Materials & Methods: A retrospective study for a period of two years on 30 cases was done in the Department of Pathology, ASCOMS, and Jammu
Results: The age of the cases ranged from 30-80 years with majority of cases seen in the age group of 61-70 years. Male preponderance was seen with M:F ratio of 2.7:1. More than half of the cases were High grade papillary urothelial carcinoma which showed muscle invasion. According to stage, 16 cases were PT2 (Muscle invasive) and 14 cases where PT1 (Non-muscle invasive).
Conclusion: High grade tumors were significantly associated with muscle invasion and therefore understanding the grading, staging and associated histopathological parameters are essential for prognosis and therapeutic decision making.
